The Story of a Legend

Watchmaking enjoys a long tradition in the Czech lands and did not become successful by accident. In the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries the industry was boosted by conditions that enabled it to flourish. Watchmaking is a craft, combining art and design and the application of precision engineering technology. The industry achieved international fame in the latter during the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the First Republic. Fortunately, even the communist era did not affect such success.

Today, decades after the fall of communism, Czech design, typography and precision engineering are again enjoying the global reputation that they deserve. And these are very good times for the watchmaking sector. Our team comprises an enlightened investor and first-class designers and watchmakers. We began producing the unique BOHEMATIC watches in Nové Město nad Metují and wanted the design and technology of the twenty-first century to build on the best design and technology of the past.

It all started with a meeting between investor Josef Zajíček and designers Michal Froněk and Jan Němeček, at the Olgoj Chorchoj studio in the Libeň neighbourhood of Prague. All three shared a passion for technology, craftsmanship, and old racing cars. This gave rise to a project that would restore Czech watchmaking to its rightful place. The result is BOHEMATIC – a concept of watches built on precision manufacturing and timeless design.
